There are 8 pupils in Bumblebee Class who are aged between 5-7 years old and all pupils have Severe Learning Difficulties as well as some complex care needs. We have a structured day with lots of routines designed to help us to work on our communication, social skills and independence.
Bumblebee Class is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We follow an EYFS curriculum and have termly themes to support delivery of the curriculum such as ‘All about Me’, ‘Nursery Rhymes’ and ‘People who help us’. There are seven areas of learning and development in the EYFS. There are three prime areas which are communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. There are four specific areas which are literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design. The pupils follow a structured day consisting of daily routines, play, adult-led and child-initiated activities and they have the opportunity to play and learn both indoors and outdoors.
Our activities and lessons are sensory and fun and we always work hard! We are very active and enjoy two swims a week, Rebound Therapy on the trampoline, time with the music man as well as accessing the different facilities around the school such as The Library, The Sensory Room, The ICT Suite, Forest Schools and Soft Play.
