Welcome to Butterfly and Bumblebee Classes
Pupils in Butterfly and Bumblebee Classes are all Reception aged. The pupils have Severe Learning Difficulties and a number are diagnosed with autism.
Butterfly and Bumblebee Classes are part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We follow an EYFS curriculum and have termly themes to support delivery of the curriculum such as 'Animals', ‘All about Me’, ‘Nursery Rhymes’ and ‘People who help us’.
There are seven areas of learning and development in the EYFS. There are three prime areas which are communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. There are four specific areas which are literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design. The pupils follow a structured day consisting of daily routines, play, adult-led and child-initiated activities and they have the opportunity to play and learn both indoors and outdoors.
We have 2 large classrooms which are separated into different areas for learning such as the group area, role-play area and creative area. We also have our own outdoor learning area. The pupils have the opportunity to visit and use the facilities in school such as the swimming pool, soft play room, library and music room. We also participate in Forest School sessions and off-site education.
We work really hard in Butterfly and Bumblebee Classes to settle our pupils into school so that they are happy and feel safe and therefore, are ready to learn. Pupils are supported to learn routines, become familiar with their environment and to develop relationships with others. We believe that a strong foundation in Early Years is important to support future learning and development.
