Makaton workshops for parents

Makaton training for parents will be available in the Autumn Term 2017

Details will be given in the new term.



Dear Parents & Carers,

RE: Makaton Beginners’ Workshop

The school is offering the Beginners’ Makaton Workshop for parents and carers of pupils at Old Park School in March. This training route is recommended for Parents and Carers of Makaton users.


The Workshop will be held in the Training Room on the following dates:

Module 1 Thursday 09th March 2017 9.30 a.m.  – 12.30 p.m.

Module 2 Thursday 16th March 2017 9.30 a.m.  – 12.30 p.m.

Module 3 Thursday 23rd  March 2017 9.30 a.m.  – 12.30 p.m.

Module 4 Thursday 30th March 2017 9.30 a.m.  – 12.30 p.m.


The training is offered free of charge but there is a fee of £25.00 per person which covers the cost of the Makaton  Participants’ Manuals and an Attendance Certificate on completion of the workshop. 


The Makaton website describes the Beginners’ workshop in the following way:

 “The Beginners' Workshop provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work. You will also learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 and Additional of the Core Vocabulary You will receive two workshop manuals, which include the signs and symbols that you have learned. You will also be given a certificate of attendance”

A confirmation slip will be sent to you once places on the workshop have been finalised. The payment of £25.00 per participant can be made at the school office either before the workshop or on the first day of training. The Beginners’ workshop will be repeated in the future, if you are unable to attend on this occasion.
