Welcome

Welcome to Old Park School website!

This website has been designed to provide general information about the school and information for our parents and carers. We also want to show some of the amazing achievements made by the children and young people who attend our  school.

We are an all age special school for up to 136 pupils aged 4-19. We provide an excellent education for pupils who have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties including autism. These include pupils with complex medical conditions, physical and mobility difficulties and autism. A number of our children have behavioural difficulties arising from their condition and many have communication difficulties.

We gained specialist status in the SEN strand of Communication and Interaction and we have developed our expertise in this area with highly trained staff and enhanced resources. We strongly believe that communication is the key to all learning and we provide a ‘Total Communication’ environment.

We have a dedicated and highly skilled staff team who ensure that every individual reaches their full potential both within the school and also in our local community. The curriculum is personalised to support each child as they move through our school and beyond. We believe that ‘Every Child Matters’ and this can be seen by the care and support and the high expectations we have for all children. The safety and well being of our pupils is paramount.

We also strongly believe that education is not just about school and we work in close partnership with parents and carers and the home.

The school is supported by a multi-agency team of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy colleagues, as well as teachers of the visually impaired, hearing impaired and our own trained intervenors. We have our own school nurse who leads our 'complex care team'.

Old Park School moved from its old site, where the school had been established since 1970, to a new, purpose built school, in November 2011. Our school building has excellent ‘state of the art’ facilities that enable us to offer our pupils the full range of the National Curriculum as well as a broad and balanced curriculum matched to their individual needs. We are located near a mainstream primary and secondary school and have become part of the ‘Thorns Community Learning Village’.

The excellent facilities at Old Park School include well equipped classrooms and specialist rooms for science, woodwork, art, and food technology that have been thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of all the pupils we teach.

The school also has soft play, multi- sensory and music rooms equipped with 'soundbeam' 'optimusic'  and 'eye gaze' technology. The school also has a swimming pool with a multi-sensory light and sound system. We also offer 'rebound therapy' in our school gym. The school has a fully equipped physiotherapy room, as well as training and family rooms to support parents and the wider community.

Our outside learning environment is extremely important to us and our children enjoy age appropriate equipment in Early Years Foundation Stage, Primary and Secondary playgrounds. We have a wheelchair accessible play area with swings and a roundabout. We are a Forest School and pupils thrive in our  large wooded area that is accessible to all.

As you browse our website you will see that Old Park is a fully inclusive school that strives to meet the needs of all our pupils whatever their ability and circumstances.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find any information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school directly with any queries you may have.
